For numbers 5 and 4, we have the classic Ford Ka commercials which made animal rights activists and animal lovers squeal when first aired. Ford quickly bowed to the constant and unrelenting pressures of the activist’s letters, phone calls, and suing threats. Although claims were filed and pursued, Ford ultimately got no more than a media slap on the wrist.

 

Toyota Corolla’s ad lands at a firm number 3 with its somewhat questionable content.

 

Number 2 goes to the Toyota Rav4 with is extremely original yet “Suggestive” content said to promote spousal abuse by various groups and individuals. Luckily, Toyota was not swayed by their arguments and aired this great ad for all to enjoy.

The grand prize winner for The Most Controversial Car Ad goes to Volkswagen with its shocking indiscretion to feature a suicide bomber. Many Americans are in an uproar to immediately stop the ad from airing anymore.

  1. These ads are funny. What about the Hummer “Get Lost” campaign? It takes cynicism to a new level. Real cynicism is much more abhorrent than tasteless jokes.
